Current Story - Under The Bridge

March 2, 2002 was a spectacular day on the waterfront at the Angus L. MacDonald and the A. Murray MacKay bridges. A massive post-Panamax crane on board the Zhen Hua, a semi-submersible cargo ship, transited under both bridges. Wallace Macdonald & Lively Surveying and Engineering Limited (WML) provided two teams of surveyors, one on each side of the Harbour, to obtain critical measurements to confirm that there was sufficient clearance for the crane to pass under the bridges. WML performed their measurements, calculations, and checks, then announced that the ship was "good to go" as the crowds looked on with scepticism. WML confidently watched the crane slip under the bridges, which were both closed for all traffic and pedestrians. Huge numbers of spectators came out to witness the event, causing significant traffic tie-up for two hours.
